ICANN has selected Gandi as the gaining registrar for the gTLD domain names previously managed by OpenTLD (operating as "Freenom"). These domains are being transferred to Gandi and we are in the process of importing them into our system.
We will soon be notifying domain owners and inviting them to create a Gandi account in order to manage their domains.
We request the attention of Freenom/OpenTLD customers to the following points:
- There will be no costs incurred for the transfer from OpenTLD to Gandi.
- The expiration date of the domains will remain unchanged. Therefore, we urge domain owners to log in to their Gandi account (once they receive the invitation to create it) to verify the expiration date of their domains and proceed with renewal if necessary.
- Depending on the extension, after a 60-day period as per ICANN's Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy, domain owners will have the option to transfer their domains to another registrar. It may be required to renew the domains with Gandi before being able to transfer them to another registrar.
The ccTLD domains administered by Freenom (.cf, .gq and .tk) are not concerned. We kindly request domain owners in these extensions to reach out to the respective registries for assistance.
