Frequently asked questions about Domain Names
Can I export a list of my domains?
Yes, you can export a list of your domains (in full or after filtering) as a .csv file by :
in the DOMAIN menu, switch to "Advanced view" to display the domains over which you have rights. Click on the "gear" icon at the top right of the table. Choose "Export to CSV".
Depending on your browser configuration, you will then be prompted to view or save the file. This file contains all the administrative information for each domain displayed in the domain list.
If you wish to export only a part of your domain names (for an organization, for example), first perform an Advanced Search prior to exporting.
Help! I can't find my domain name
There may be several reasons why you aren't seeing one (or more) of your domain names in your account.
- Incoming transfer
If you've just finalized an incoming transfer or change of ownership operation for a domain but don't see it in your list, chances are it doesn't appear there because you haven't yet validated the email invitation.
This step is important, as it tells the system under which Gandi account the domain should be placed for management.
Check the inbox of the email address used by the domain owner, and look for an email whose subject begins with "Invitation to manage", then follow the instructions.
Once you've completed this step, you'll see the domain name in your account.
If you need us to resend this invitation, please contact us at support-en@support.gandi.net
- Organization
If you manage a domain name via an organization (but you're not the owner), it's also possible that your permissions to view and manage the domain have been revoked. To solve this problem, the owner who has sufficient rights must restore these permissions to you.
It's also possible that you've activated the wrong "classic" account. In the previous version (v4) of our site ( just as in version 5), it's possible to renew a domain from any Gandi account (unless the domain is managed by a reseller), so that you can keep your domain even if you encounter problems logging in to your usual account.
However, this operation only renews the domain, which "remains under its original account". If you are used to using this account and have migrated to V5, the domain is not linked to it, so it cannot appear on your interface. To solve this problem, find the owner account and activate it.
- Set to "Lapse"
If you've set a domain to "Lapse", which allows you to "hide" domains that you want to let expire in order to make your domain name list more precise, it's to be expected that you won't be able to find your domain name on it.
To check this, go to the DOMAIN section (left-hand navigation menu in your account administration). Whether you're in "Simple View" or "Advanced View", click on "Filter" to the right of the search field.
In the filter block that has just opened, in the central column, you'll see a category "SHOW DOMAINS ALLOWED TO LAPSE". Click on the "All domains" button below to display all "hidden" domains. You'll see that they have a red L tag.
4. Transfers Common questions about domain transfer
How do I correct the authorization code and restart the transfer?
If you need to restart a domain name transfer because the authorization code is missing or incorrect, you can do so from the relevant domain transfer progress page, provided the operation is not still stopped or in error. You can access it from the “DOMAIN NAME” management of the user or organization concerned, then click on the “Current” tab and finally on the name of the domain concerned. Scroll down and enter the new code (or the correct code) in the field provided and save.
5. Where can I get my authorization code?
To retrieve your authorization code, please follow these steps: In the DOMAIN NAME menu, click on your domain name. In the Outgoing Transfer tab, the authorization code will be displayed or regenerate it if necessary.
6. I don't see my Authorization code?
Several possible reasons:
Your domain is managed by a reseller and the latter has not given you access to the Owner or Administrative Contact account of the domain. Contact them to provide you with the Authorization code.
You are accessing the domain through an account that does not have sufficient permissions to access this information. Verify that you or anyone else does not have access to this other account.
Otherwise, contact us at support-en@support.gandi.net
If the Authorization code window displays “pending” and the “Generate new code” button remains grayed out, contact us support-en@support.gandi.net
7. How do I unlock my domain (remove transfer protection)
In the DOMAIN NAME menu, click on the domain name you want to transfer. Then in the Outgoing Transfer tab, click on “Disable transfer protection”.
If you do not see this functionality but you see the Authorization code, this means that your domain extension does not use this functionality (like .FR domains for example).
8. What should I do if my domain is managed by a reseller?
You will need to contact the latter directly (or their customer support) because they are the Technical intermediary between you and Gandi.
They are responsible for all your Technical, Administrative and Commercial requests and can carry out the necessary operations for a transfer of your domain. You can also ask them to release your domain and its owner account (after updating their email address), which will allow you to use this account to connect to our site and manage your domain.
9. I am not receiving the verification email
For certain extensions (TLDs) after successfully completing the Transfer process with the new registrar (for example accepting the confirmation emails and having entered the correct authorization code), the system will send a confirmation email output to the domain owner with these details:
Subject: [GANDI] IMPORTANT: Transfer from EXAMPLE.COM to another registrar.
From: \*\*\*\*-transfer-out@gandi.net
If you do not click on the link provided in the Email, the transfer will be accepted automatically after 5 full days (8 for a .fr) after the end of the transfer procedure at the registry level.
10. What should I do if I change my mind?
During the transfer, if it requires validation by E-mail, simply do not validate one of the confirmation E-mails and the transfer will be automatically blocked, you can then cancel it. Don't forget to contact the new registrar to cancel this transfer: With certain registries, non-cancellation is equivalent to validating Emails with a longer delay. The transfer could therefore be finalized later. Domains generally cannot be transferred for 60 days after registration or a previous transfer.
11. Destruction
How to delete a Domain Name
Gandi does not force you to renew your default domains.
If you want to delete your domain name, simply do not renew it. When a domain is not renewed, it is automatically destroyed in the registry after different phases (different depending on the extension concerned). For a .com for example, this period is 80 days after the expiration of the domain. After a random period (known only to the registry) the domain will become available for registration again on a “first come, first served” basis. If you need to destroy your domain name before its expiration date (for example for a legal problem or urgent reasons), you will need to send us the early destruction form (and all necessary identification proofs, as indicated in the form instructions). This form :
