Outgoing transfer of a domain name
Frequently asked questions about domain transfers
How can I correct the authorization code and restart the transfer?
If you need to restart the transfer of a domain name due to a missing or invalid authorization code, you can do so from the transfer progress page of the domain concerned, provided that the operation has not yet been canceled or is in error.
You can access it from the "DOMAIN" management of the user or organization concerned, then click on the "In progress" tab and finally on the domain name in question.
Scroll down the page and enter the new (or correct) code in the appropriate field, then save.
Where can I get my authorization code?
To retrieve your authorization code, please follow these steps:
In the DOMAIN menu, click on your domain name. In the Outgoing transfer tab, the authorization code will be displayed or you can regenerate it if necessary.
I can't see my Authorization code?
There are several possible reasons:
- Your domain is managed by a reseller who has not given you access to the domain's Owner or Administrative Contact account. Contact the reseller to obtain the authorization code.
- You are accessing the domain via an account that does not have sufficient permissions to access this information. Check that you or another person do not have access to the other account. If not, contact us at support-en@support.gandi.net
If the Authorization code window displays "pending" and the "Generate new code" button remains grayed out, contact us support-en@support.gandi.net
How can I unlock my domain (remove transfer protection)?
In the DOMAIN menu, click on the domain name you wish to transfer. Then, in the Outgoing Transfer tab, click on the "Transfer lock" switch so that it turns gray.
If you don't see this feature but you do see the Authorization code, this means that your domain extension doesn't support this feature (e.g. .FR domains).
What if my domain is managed by a reseller?
You will need to contact the reseller directly (or their customer support team), as they are the technical intermediary between you and Gandi.
They are in charge of all your technical, administrative and commercial requests, and can carry out the necessary operations to transfer your domain. You can also ask them to release your domain and its owner account (after updating its email address), which will allow you to use this account to login to and manage your domain.
I'm not receiving the verification email
For some extensions (TLDs), after successfully completing the Transfer process with the new registrar (e.g. accepting confirmation emails and entering the correct authorization code), the system will send an outgoing confirmation email to the domain owner with these details :
Subject: [GANDI] IMPORTANT: Transfer of EXAMPLE.COM to another registrar.
From: \*\*\*\*-transfer-out@gandi.net
If you don't click on the link provided in the email, the transfer will be accepted automatically after 5 full days (8 for .fr) after the registry has completed the transfer process.
What if I change my mind?
If the transfer requires validation via email, all you have to do is not validate one of the confirmation emails, and the transfer will be automatically blocked, allowing you to cancel it. Don't forget to contact the new registrar to cancel the transfer: with some registries, failure to cancel means validating the emails with a longer delay. The transfer could therefore be finalized at a later date.
Domains generally cannot be transferred for 60 days following registration or a previous transfer.
