Things to consider and double check before initiating a domain transfer
For general extensions (gTLDs) (.com / .net / .org / etc.) check :
- That the domain has been created (registered) for at least 60 days.
- That the domain has not changed registrar in the last 60 days.
- That all owner (registrant) information in the Whois database is correct and visible. You can check this either via your current registrar's Whois, or via Gandi's: https://whois.gandi.net/en
- That the administrative contact's email address is correct and visible in the Whois.
- That the domain has not already been deleted by your current registrar.
- That you have unlocked (if applicable) the transfer lock (TransferProhibited).
- That you have retrieved the transfer authorization code (known as the "Auth code" or "EPP code").
- That you have deactivated DNSSEC on your domain if it uses it (keys cannot be transferred). You can reactivate this function after the transfer.
We strongly encourage you to make a backup copy of the DNS zone (the set of DNS records) currently used by the domain to be transferred, to avoid any interruption of service (see step 2 of the "3..-II. Configuration template" of the transfer procedure).
If you encounter any difficulties with the above operations, please consult your current registrar's online documentation (if available) or contact their customer service department for assistance, as these operations must be carried out on their side.
For .co.uk / .org.uk / .me.uk domains, they must be "pushed" to Gandi by changing the IPS Tag to "GANDI" at your current registrar before initiating the transfer.
