Name servers
A name server is a specialized type of server that tells a browser which IP address is associated with a specific domain name. So that any computer in the world can find another computer or server, there is an interconnected system of Name Servers that continually exchange information about which IP address is associated with which Domain Name. This system, known as DNS (Domain Name System), is like a gigantic directory that tells the world where your website is located. You tell this network of name servers where to find your website when you configure the DNS records associated with your website.
NOTE: Any DNS records modified via our site's interface are updated on our LiveDNS. These updates are then transferred to the registry's DNS, which in turn provides them to the "Root" Name Servers. This update operation is not continuous, but based on a "cycle" defined by the TTL ("time to live") of each record, so as not to saturate the network with incessant requests. This is why changes to a DNS record are not immediately available, but rather are subject to a "propagation" delay.
