[BETA] How to import your emails into a Gandimail box
This feature is still in Beta Test.
Gandi Mail Import (GMI) is a tool allowing you to import the content of an “external” mailbox (i.e. from another provider) into a mailbox hosted by Gandi. You can find this tool at this address:
Important: This process will only copy the entire contents of the external mailbox into the Gandi mailbox. No action will be performed on the original mailbox and therefore after import you will have copies of the Emails in both boxes. For any request regarding the original mailbox, you will need to contact the supplier of this box.
Before you start
You will need to have created the mailbox at Gandi. You will also need the identifier of the two boxes (usually the email address itself) and the password for each.
Important
Make sure you have already created the mailbox and that it has enough space to receive all the emails from the original box. No control can be made over which Emails will be imported and which will not.
You may also need to retrieve the name of the IMAP servers if the tool's automatic detection does not work. Generally the name of the imap server looks like imap.monprorestataire.com, but if in doubt contact your service provider for this information.
Procedure On the page: https://gmi.gandi.net/
in the origin block, enter the email address (or login) of the box you want to migrate, as well as its password.
Note: You will be asked for the passwords corresponding to the two boxes, but they will not be stored on our servers. Once entered, they are directly transmitted to the imapsync tool which is responsible for importing, for identification on the servers, just like when you connect to your mailbox via Webmail.
In the block on the right, enter the address of your Gandi mailbox which will receive old emails, then click on [Start Migration].
On the next page the tool will display the corresponding IMAP server, if it finds it. Otherwise, enter it manually (as a reminder, this is that of your former service provider). Click [Start Migration].
The following page will display the status of the synchronization which may take longer or shorter depending on the quantity of emails to transfer. You can keep this page open to track progress (you'll find a link to refresh the page), or you can bookmark it to come back later.
